Last week, 4th grade started on their Square 1 Art project. It was inspired by a project I saw on Pinterest and Vincent Van Gogh!
Day 1-We looked at his art, Starry Night and his Sunflower paintings, and then painted our sunflower paper, and background paper.
Day 2- we started making our sunflower collage!
Materials:90lb paper, My favorite paint, and my favorite brushes!

This week 5th grade is working on their self portraits, that they use for their collage! We just drew half a face, so it’s a little easier! This is inspired from The Lost Sock art blog and the original project can be found, if you click here.
Day 1 (45 min) Drawing half a face with me. Most have had time to draw, trace, and start to color
Day 2 (45 min) They finish coloring, cut it out, glue it on the side of the new paper, and start on their collage. I usually get them to find the letters in their name first. We're still on day 2, so I'm not sure if they'll finish day 3 or not!

For 1st grade’s first art project of the year, we focused on line, shape, and color, and created these beautiful birds together! This lesson is from Deep Space Sparkle as well, and is a hit each time we try it!
Here’s the materials we used:
Sharpies or black oil pastels
My favorite tempera paint cakes or my 2nd favorite tempera paint
For their 1st actual art project, 2nd grade started a Deep Space Sparkle lesson, and created some shape robots the past 2 art classes!
We used shape tracers like these, as tools to create our masterpieces! 
We also used:
Silver sharpies and regular sharpies
I love how each one turned out differently! Great job 2nd grade!

Here we are again! Year 22 over here! We’re through with rules and procedures, (I went over them 36 times….6 classes on a 6 day rotation, shew!) so now we can focus on some art!
Side note- this helped tremendously with 3-5, going over where things are in the new art room (yes they moved me again, and thank goodness it’s not a portable) This is a scavenger hunt the big kids did, that another art teacher in the district shared and it was a hit!

And I found this project I did about 15 years ago, at least 😆 but we’re trying it again!

Here’s some great examples from some of our students!
This week, 1st grade artists wrapped up the school year with a fun and colorful paper sculpture project inspired by art teacher and creator Cassie Stephens! Students explored the exciting world of line by turning flat strips of paper into standing 3D sculptures full of loops, curls, zigzags, and bends.
Using bright paper and their creativity, students learned how lines can move in many different ways and how artists can make artwork pop off the page. Each sculpture was attached to a bold black-and-white line background, they made with big Sharpies, helping the colorful forms stand out even more.
This lesson was the perfect one-day project to celebrate all the creativity, problem-solving, and artistic growth our 1st graders have shown this year. The classroom was filled with excitement as students experimented, built, and proudly shared their unique designs. We are so proud of these young artists and all they accomplished this year!
3rd Grade Sewing & Fiber Arts
Our 3rd grade artists have spent the past few weeks learning the basics of fiber art by sewing with yarn on burlap! Students practiced patience, hand-eye coordination, and creativity as they carefully stitched their designs one piece at a time.

Here's what you need:
For this project, students used colorful yarn and simple sewing techniques to create a work of art on burlap. They learned how to thread yarn, stitch through burlap, and use different colors and lines to add detail and personality to their artwork.
This project was a wonderful combination of art and life skills. Sewing encouraged students to slow down, problem solve, and persevere through challenges. Each finished piece is unique and shows the hard work and creativity our young artists put into every stitch.
We are so proud of our 3rd graders for trying something new and creating such beautiful fiber art masterpieces!
🎨 Night of the Arts
Our Night of the Arts was a huge success! We had an amazing turnout, and it was so special to see our school community come together to celebrate creativity.
The hallways were filled with beautiful student artwork, proudly displayed for families to enjoy. Our students were beaming with excitement as they shared their creations and showed off all their hard work.
Families had the chance to stop by the photobooth, take pictures with Roary our mascot, explore the instrument petting zoo, and enjoy wonderful dance and choir performances. There was something for everyone, and the energy throughout the building was truly unforgettable.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support our students and the arts. It was a night full of creativity, joy, and school pride! 🐾
Our 1st grade artists explored the colorful and imaginative world of Paul Klee through his famous painting Castle and Sun. Klee loved to use simple shapes, bold lines, and bright colors to create playful cities and dreamlike landscapes—and that’s exactly what our students did!
We began by looking closely at Klee’s artwork and noticing how he used geometric shapes like squares, rectangles, and triangles to build his castle. Students talked about how shapes can come together to create something new, like buildings and towers.
Next, students drew their own castles using a variety of shapes. They traced their lines with bold black oil pastel to help their designs stand out—just like Klee’s strong outlines. Then came the fun part—color! Students used tempera paints to fill in their shapes, experimenting with bright and contrasting colors to bring their castles to life.
To finish their artwork, students painted a sky and added a bold, glowing sun inspired by Klee’s work. Each piece turned into a unique and colorful city full of personality!
It's state standardized testing week y'all! That means altered schedules and shortened classes for the whole school! yay...Anyway, we're making the best of it and creating some cute crayons this week in Kindergarten.
