2nd Grade Fruit Bowls
We started off this project by looking at the artwork of the French artist, Paul Cezanne. He painted many things, but one subject matter he is famous for, is his still life of fruit. Here is one of the examples we looked at.

We also discussed what a still life is. A still life is a collection of inanimate objects, things that don't move, that artists paint a picture of. After we talked about what a still life was, I gave them a little pre-test, to see where they were at, and I had them draw a bowl of fruit on their own. Here are some of the examples.
Before Instruction
After they completed their "before" paper, we talked about how the fruit doesn't float above the bowl, how the fruit needs to be big, how the it overlaps and touches, and we compared the different sizes of each fruit. We practiced drawing the fruit together, and then they created their own still life of fruit. As you can see, they grew a lot! Great job boys and girls!!
