Kindergarten Grouchy Lady Bugs

This week, Kindergarten is creating their own version of Eric Carle's Grouchy Ladybug! We're practicing our drawing, cutting, and following direction skills to create this fun little project. Here's how we created it!
Materials:
12x12" sax 80lb paper
Painted paper
Scissors
Glue Sticks

Day 1: Listen to the book, The Grouchy Ladybug, and discuss the artist and auther, Eric Carle! Eric Carle painted paper, cut out shapes, and assembled those together to create his art and illustrations! After showing them examples of his work, we'll start to create our own! They will be given red and green painted paper, and their white paper to start. (They can make their own, or you can have some pre-made) We'll dray a "big rainbow" on the back of the red, and a zig-zag line on the back of the green strip. I give them a 9x12" piece of red, and a 3x12" piece of green. We cut those out and overlap the grass, and glue it to the bottom. Then, we cut out our ladybug, and glue it above the grass. I'll then give them a 4x12 piece of black paper to draw their oval head and oval spots.

Day 2: Continue to glue on head and spots, create legs, antenna, and maybe sun and clouds (if we have time)

Mrs. Garcia's class is off to a great start!

Stay tuned for some awesome art!
