2nd grade Heather Galler inspired mugs

Last week, 2nd grade started this Cassie Stephens and Heather Galler inspired lesson! They did a great job decorating their backgrounds by adding patterns and lines! For more details on how to do the lesson, click on Cassie's name! Here's how we made ours.

Materials:
Tru-Ray construction paper
9x9"
4x6"
3x9"
Pencils
Crayola Oil Pastels
Scissors
Glue
White tempera paint

Day 1: Show examples of Heather Galler's work, and the work from past students. Then, I demonstrated how to use patterns made up of lines and shapes, to decorate their background! Backgrounds usually took one 45 minute class.

Day 2: We did a directed draw for the mug, handle, and plates. They decorated those with oil pastels, and outlined with them too. After everything is colored, they cut them out, glued them on, and painted steam with white tempera paint.

Here's some awesome 2nd grade art!
