Faculty Painting Night!

Faculty painting night with Mrs. Stacey!

Look how talented your teachers and principals are! As I've been telling you, you can use art long after you have left our school! Art is something that is all around us, and does not have to be your job to enjoy! Last Thursday night, some of the faculty got together to have a little fun before winter break. I taught them how to paint a snowman under a night sky, and they did a great job! Here are their beautiful works of art!

Hope everyone has a wonderful winter break!

4th & 5th grade Blended Candy Canes

4th & 5th grade

Blended Candy Canes

As 5th graders are finishing their one point perspective pictures, they can start on a fun project that involves blending, and using one of my favorite mediums, oil pastels.

Here's a step by step tutorial on how to make them!

5th grade One Point Perspective Landscapes

5th grade

One Point Perspective Landscapes

For the past few weeks, 5th grade has been working on their one point perspective drawings. They have taken us quite a while, but they're turning out quite nicely! Before I started teaching the lesson, I gave them a piece of paper that asked about one point perspective, and then asked them to draw a picture of a road. Here's a few of their drawings before instruction.

For this project, we go through the steps (which there are a lot of) together.
We start with the horizon line, draw the vanishing point, create the road, and then the guide lines going to our vanishing point. (all together, with ruler and a pencil) I tell them they need to do trees on the left of their paper, but they can do something different on the right side of their paper. They can choose what type of tree, or cactus, they want to do and we draw them together. They can also choose what type of environment they want to do as well. Beach, desert, country, city, etc.

The next class, we focus on what they will put on the right side. I have how to draw building packets, how to draw fence packets, and I go over how to draw both on my document camera. I also demonstrate how to draw water at a distance. So many want to draw their water from a bird's eye view! There's so  much you can do with this type project, but I wanted to keep it simple so I wouldn't overwhelm my 5th graders! We draw with pencil, trace with Sharpie markers, and color with Crayola Twistables.

Here are their papers, after instruction. They showed tremendous improvement, and did a marvelous job!

2nd grade Paul Cezanne inspired Fruit bowls

2nd Grade Fruit Bowls

We started off this project by looking at the artwork of the French artist, Paul Cezanne.  He painted many things, but one subject matter he is famous for, is his still life of fruit. Here is one of the examples we looked at.

Paul Cézanne, “Fruit Bowl, Glass, and Apples” (1879-1882)

3rd grade Fall Printmaking Collage

 3rd grade
Fall Printmaking Collage
Third grade has been working on a new project, inspired by the artist and art teacher Cassie Stephens, that involves a few different types of media.
They created their leaves by printmaking with markers, and created their background by using liquid watercolors, salt, and oil pastels. Here's how we created ours!

Kindergarten & First Fall "Y trees"

Kindergarten Fall "Y trees"

Kindergarten has been learning how to make a tree with branches, which can be a tricky thing for a 5 year old!
I make it easier for them by using a trick I was taught during student teaching, a mere 14 years ago! (wow!)

4th Grade Fall Birch Trees

4th Grade Warm or Cool Birch Trees

Fourth grade has been working hard on their mixed media birch trees, for the past couple of weeks.

Here's how we created ours....

3rd Grade Fall Forrests

  3rd Grade Fall Forests

Third grade has been working on these cute little creations for the past couple of art classes now, and have been doing a great job!

Materials: Tru-Ray construction paper 9x12 & 4x6, pencils, Sharpie markers, scissors, and Elmer's glue sticks.

First, the students cut out their ground, and glued it to their background. They were to glue on the lightest green first, darker green second, and darkest green third, to create the look of aerial perspective. After they glued on their ground, the drew and cut out their trees. After they drew and traced the branches with a sharpie, they could glue them on the ground. We talked about overlapping and how to create the illusion of space when gluing on their trees. After the trees were glued, a few clouds and a sun were added to complete their project! Here are some examples of their work!

Art For Kids Hub Haunted Houses

Today, my 3rd and 4th grade classes were inspired by the art from the Youtube channel, Art For Kids Hub. It's a great channel where a father and his children teach you how to draw hundreds of different things! If you didn't get to finish yours today, or want to check it out, head on over to
