Monochromatic Self Portraits

This year, I wanted to make a collaborative piece of art, to kick off the new year. I also wanted to create something that wasn't too tricky for the kids, while we got back into the swing of things and went over expectations and procedures in the art room, as well.

We got our inspiration from a few talented art teachers and students. Here's some great blogs you can get inspiration from too!

1st and 2nd self portraits

Our first project of the year for 1st and 2nd grade was self portraits! First they drew one all by themselves, so I could see where they're at, and then we drew one together! They all improved so much, in just one class! The 2nd time I saw them, we drew our entire body, and tried to make ourselves more proportionate. They did a great job, and I'm so proud of them! Here's some great examples!

5th grade radial symmetrical name art

Y'all....I'm so proud of these 5th graders! They're my first class of the day, and have been a joy to have in the morning. These past few weeks, we've been working on a project that I haven't tried in a few years, but I'm glad we visited it again! Thanks for the idea Mrs. Rogers! The students take their name, or name of choice, write it once and trace it 7 more times to create this neat and unique work of art! Here's how we created ours!

4th Grade "Tie Dye"

4th Grade created these colorful artworks by using oil pastels and erasers! This lesson was inspired by The Art of Ed blog, and was a hit!
Here's how we did it, but you can also check out the Art of Ed's blog for more details!
