5th grade Square 1 Art

5th Grade Square 1 Art Project 🎨

Our 5th graders have been hard at work creating beautiful artwork for our Square 1 Art fundraiser! This year, students were given the freedom to choose their favorite animal or object as the subject of their art.

On Day 1, they brought in their computers to search for inspiration—whether it was images of animals, favorite objects, or step-by-step “how to draw” tutorials. They sketched out their ideas and got started on their drawings.

On Day 2, students carefully traced their designs with black Sharpie markers and added color using pastels, colored pencils, or paint.

On Day 3, they focused on finishing touches, making sure their art was bold, bright, and ready to shine!

Materials

To create their masterpieces, students used:

We’ll be mailing the artwork to Square 1 Art in mid-October. Families will receive free stickers of their child’s art, along with a catalog to order custom products, in November, just in time for Christmas. This year, Square 1 is offering free shipping on every order!

Not only will families get to enjoy these keepsakes, but every purchase also helps buy art supplies for over 800 students in our school. Thank you for supporting our young artists and helping keep creativity alive in the classroom!

5th grade radial symmetrical name art

Y'all....I'm so proud of these 5th graders! They're my first class of the day, and have been a joy to have in the morning. These past few weeks, we've been working on a project that I haven't tried in a few years, but I'm glad we visited it again! Thanks for the idea Mrs. Rogers! The students take their name, or name of choice, write it once and trace it 7 more times to create this neat and unique work of art! Here's how we created ours!

5th grade 1 point perspective rooms

For the past few weeks, 5th grade has been working on one of their last projects as 5th graders! (& it's taking for-ev-er btw...) They're doing a great job on this tricky skill though. Here's how we created them!
& Sorry I haven't posted much here lately! April and May are super stressful around here! At least state testing is finally over!  I'm in the middle of art show prep and trying to get my evaluation portfolio complete. That means I'm mounting and labeling 28 classes worth of art, and each child has 1-3 pieces of art that will be on display! Whew, that's over 1,120 pieces of art! Shew! It'll be worth it though. These kids get so excited to show their art off, and the halls will be filled with color!

5th Grade Masks!

5th Grade Masks!

Our 5th graders are finishing up their masks this week, and they're looking terrific! We studied different masks from around the world, and were mostly inspired by African, Asian, Native American, and European masks. The students noticed the masks were symmetrical, had geometric and organic shapes, and although they varied from culture to culture, they still had much in common! Here are a few of the examples we looked at, of masks from around the world!

Materials:

Day 1: Looked at masks for inspiration. Then I have the students fold their pieces of construction paper with me, so I know they're folding them correctly. Then I show them how to draw a line from the top to the bottom to create the outline of their mask. After they have the desired shape, they cut it out and start adding features to their mask. I stress the importance of making their mask symmetrical, by folding their scrap paper and cutting out 2 things at once, to put on each side. I also stress the importance of layering paper, and how that looks so much better than just gluing on one thing! For instance, take a look at  my example, especially the eyes...I layered 3-5 pieces of paper to make the eyes alone! I complete them by adding a tiny piece of white paper to add that extra little element, that makes them look even better!
Day 2: Continue to glue on details and staple one or each end of the mask, to make them a more 3-d. They can also add crimped paper or feathers to the top or bottom to add some finishing touches! I think the more they add, the better they look!
