3-5th grade Kandinsky inspired mural

This week and part of next week, we're in testing mode!( I'm still in the getting ready for the art show mode!!)
With a different schedule and shorter classes, we've got to adapt and make it work! :) We're doing that by learning about a famous artist (Wassily Kandinsky), learning what a mural is, making some awesome art, and creating a backdrop for our photobooth for our annual art and music show, Night of the Arts!
I got this idea from another art teacher, Mrs. Lynes', and wanted to try it out with our kiddos!

2nd grade Value Ice Cream Cones

Today, 2nd grade embarked on a new project! New to me and certainly new to them! I saw this awesome idea on Abby Schukei's blog, Art, Eat, Tie Dye, Repeat and decided to give it a go!
Here's how we created ours!

1st grade Simply Cute Snowy Owls

State testing has started so that means a different schedule than normal, so shorter classes for the next couple of weeks! This may sound fun, but it's not! lol 45 minutes, once a week, is not enough time to begin with, much less 35 minutes! They're coming at different times as well, and the natives are getting restless this time of the year anyway!
I saw this precious idea on Instagram, (@the_doodle_birds) and thought the kids would have fun with this quick and pretty simple lesson on line, shape, and color! They're practicing their drawing skills,  tracing skills, their coloring, and painting all in one, 1 day project! & in case you haven't noticed, Mrs. Stacey loves owls so this is a win, win!

Kindergarten Symmetrical Sharks

This week Kindergarten is starting their shark picture!
I was inspired by an @Artprojectsforkids Instagram post, (& saw it on Learning in Spain) and decided to try it out on our students! We're working on learning symmetry, folding, cutting, gluing, and coloring. Whew! Kindergarten has got this though! Cassie Stephens is right, kindergarten can be your favorite class! They are so eager to learn and please, and try SO hard! They don't care what their neighbor thinks, and they just go for it!
Here's how we made our own!

4th and 5th Collaborative Geometric Mural

Around here, we are getting ready for our annual art show, Night of the Arts! We've been passing out art, trying to finish art, choosing our art that will be hung for the show, AND starting new projects all at the same time! State testing has started as well! WHEW! I get tired just thinking about it!! haha

Here's a small example of what 4th and 5th will be starting this week. We will be creating a giant mural to hang for NOTA, that is inspired by California's Elementary Visual Arts Educator of the Year! He has their beautiful example, full how to, and a lot of other amazing art on his website Shine Brite Zamorano

Kindergarten Mother's Day Spring Bouquets

Before Spring break, I saw the cutest image on Art with Mrs. H's Instagram, and I wanted to try it out with our Kindergartners! I emailed one of the kindergarten teachers at our school, and asked how can we make this happen, and she said she would help me out!! Mrs. Campbell arranged a volunteer to come to school and help stamp the hand prints of ALL our sweet lil kinder kids! That is a task, let me tell you! They did a great job stamping their little hand, so the next part was up to me!
