Back to school! 1st projects of the year!

Here we are again! Year 22 over here! We’re through with rules and procedures, (I went over them 36 times….6 classes on a 6 day rotation, shew!) so now we can focus on some art!

Side note- this helped tremendously with 3-5, going over where things are in the new art room (yes they moved me again, and thank goodness it’s not a portable) This is a scavenger hunt the big kids did, that another art teacher in the district shared and it was a hit!

Here’s what we’re working on this week!

The shape robots and shape bird, inspired by Deep Space Sparkle
Materials: 90lb paper, black oil pastel or sharpie, and my favorite tempera paint.

Materials: pencils, sharpie markers, paint sticks

Romero Britto Pets

Materials: 60lb paper, 10" circle tracers, pencils, sharpies, colored pencils, markers, or crayons

Symmetrical circles

And I found this project I did about 15 years ago, at least 😆 but we’re trying it again!

Materials: 80lb paper, 60lb paper, magazines, glue, scissors, and markers

Here’s some great examples from some of our students!

Night of the Arts 2026

🎨 Night of the Arts

Our Night of the Arts was a huge success! We had an amazing turnout, and it was so special to see our school community come together to celebrate creativity.

The hallways were filled with beautiful student artwork, proudly displayed for families to enjoy. Our students were beaming with excitement as they shared their creations and showed off all their hard work.

Families had the chance to stop by the photobooth, take pictures with Roary our mascot, explore the instrument petting zoo, and enjoy wonderful dance and choir performances. There was something for everyone, and the energy throughout the building was truly unforgettable.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our students and the arts. It was a night full of creativity, joy, and school pride! 🐾

Kindergarten Mondrian Collages

Kindergarten is learning about Piet Mondrian and making a shape collage of primary colors and lines. This is a one day, 45 min project that they enjoyed doing!
I showed them The Primary Colors video, and showed examples of Mondrian’s art, and then demonstrated how to assemble their collage.
I used my favorite construction paper, and cut it up into shapes and strips for them.
Then, I demonstrated using the glue stick and making sure we put the glue on the shape and not all over our white paper!
They did a great job following directions and making their project their own!
Here’s some great examples!

Kindergarten & Pre-K Fall Tree Paintings

Isn't that little smile just adorable? He was so proud of his art, and the kids had so much fun making them!
This was Kindergarten's first experience with paint, and I thought they did a great job!
Here's how we made them!
I cut a 90lb 12 x 18" piece of paper in half. First, I demonstrated how to draw the grass and trees,
using Crayola Oil Pastels. Then, I showed them how to "dip & dot, dot, dot" with  my Crayola Tempera paint  & my  Royal Langnickel paintbrush!
After that, they were ready to make their own!
Here's some sweet examples from today.

Here are some Pre-K examples too! (this is my first year teaching Pre-K btw)

YAM show 2022

Hi! It's been a while! Here's a little glimpse into what we did last year, and which art made it to our annual, county wide, Youth Art Month show. I've been in a portable without a sink for 2 years, and a crazy schedule, so I haven't had as much time to post on here or IG. Plus, sometimes I forget where I got these great ideas, and don't want to make anyone upset. Below, you will see I gave credit, where credit is due! Thank you amazing art teachers for sharing your awesome ideas with us, and thank you to my students, for all your hard work! I am so very proud of you 💖
