This year, I wanted to make a collaborative piece of art, to kick off the new year. I also wanted to create something that wasn't too tricky for the kids, while we got back into the swing of things and went over expectations and procedures in the art room, as well.
We got our inspiration from a few talented art teachers and students. Here's some great blogs you can get inspiration from too!
Here's all you need:
Roll of white bulitin board paper
Day 1: I go over expectations of the art room and then we use the last 25 minutes to start our portraits. I purchased the Art with Mrs. E portrait guides this year, and demonstrated how to draw a simple portrait, and then turned them lose to create their own. I had the portrait guides on their tables too. Those drawing guides were a hit and show so many different expressions and hair do's. We also talked about monochromatic and what that means, and I demonstrated how you could use different pressures and colors in the same family, to make your monochromatic portrait.
Day 2: We finished up the portraits and taped them to a large roll of white paper. If others finished early, they could create a larger portrait, on a 9x6" piece of paper, and use whatever colors they wanted this time. 4th and 5th were doing Romero Britto style portraits, 2nd and 3rd were doing portraits with lines and designs in the background, and 1st was just trying another self portrait with a background of wherever they wanted to be.
Here's some examples!
