Kindergarten Fall Trees

This week, Kindergarten embarked on a whole new frontier in the art room...PAINTING! This may not sound very challenging, but believe me it can be. Luckily, this entire Kindergarten class is a dream, and they have done so well their first day experimenting with this medium. We also, are using something else new to them, called oil pastels. These are like thick, creamy crayons. They're one of my favorite mediums to use in the art room.  Here's how we created them!
This project just took one 45 minute art class.

First we talked about fall colors, and that led us into learning about the WARM colors. I drew out a few things, like a sun, volcano, fire, and asked them if these things were hot and what color they were. They caught on pretty quick! After we learned about the warm colors, we talked about what letter we could use to make this tree. We drew our trees together, adding a few Y's at a time. We did this with oil pastel, not pencil. I love how these little guys and girls aren't worried about making mistakes yet, and just go for it! Their little trees are so cute! Great job kindergarten!
