2nd grade Superhero self portraits

For the past few weeks, our 2nd graders have been working on their superhero self portraits, (it has a lot of steps y'all!) and we're finally finishing them up, this week! This lesson was inspired by the great Cassie Stephens, and you can see how they do their lesson if you follow this link!

Here's how we made our own!

We started out by talking about superheroes, and practiced creating our own! We talked about correct proportion, sketched and used shapes for our rough draft, and the next class we used what we learned and drew our own for the final copy. They were to come up with their own name, logo, outfit, and colors.
For the background, we looked at the painting "Starry Night", used pastels to draw the moon and stars, and painted the sky with tempera paints. After their background was dry, we created our own skyscrapers, and did the windows with yellow oil pastel.

Here they are hard at work, trying to get proportion correct!

Here's some great examples from Mrs. Fitch's class!

These two wanted to glue theirs together and make a comic strip type scene! How creative!

Here are some excellent examples from Mrs. Parsons' class!

Her upper left hand portrait is before instruction. The others are the ones we practiced together. She came a long way!

Mya improved tremendously!

Paisley's drawing went from stick figure to proportionate figure! Great job!
