This week, 2nd grade is starting their Henri Rousseau inspired tigers! Our mascot is also the tiger, so these will look great adorning our halls for Night of the Arts, coming in May! This lesson was inspired by Mrs. Steiz and you can find her blog and orginal post here!
Before we get started, we'll talk about Henri Rousseau and read the book
Materials:
We started these by just using Crayola artista II tempera paint, and no pencils to create our tiger. They painted shapes and lines, as I painted the shapes and lines. We talked about how we need to make sure we use enough paint and water to smooth out the edges, and going in one direction to smooth out the middle. We also need to use plenty of paint to make it spread easier!
After we painted the tiger's head and body, we used 2 different greens, to make the leaf border. We want it to look like the tiger is in the jungle like this Henri Rousseau painting!
Next week, we'll add stripes, a face, and more details with oil pastels and paint!
