Kindergarten Mother's Day Spring Bouquets

Before Spring break, I saw the cutest image on Art with Mrs. H's Instagram, and I wanted to try it out with our Kindergartners! I emailed one of the kindergarten teachers at our school, and asked how can we make this happen, and she said she would help me out!! Mrs. Campbell arranged a volunteer to come to school and help stamp the hand prints of ALL our sweet lil kinder kids! That is a task, let me tell you! They did a great job stamping their little hand, so the next part was up to me!

3rd grade Spring Flowers

Last week 3rd grade started this fun, colorful Spring work of art! I've been cruising around the internet for new ideas, and came across this one from The ARtcart, and thought that would be a fun way to practice our drawing, painting, cutting, coloring, and composition skills, all in one project!

2nd grade Rousseau inspired Tiger paintings

This week, 2nd grade is starting their Henri Rousseau inspired tigers! Our mascot is also the tiger, so these will look great adorning our halls for Night of the Arts, coming in May! This lesson was inspired by Mrs. Steiz and you can find her blog and orginal post here! 

Kindergarten Tiger Collage

Kindergarten started a new art project this week, and I'm so tickled about how their tigers are turning out! 

Here's how we created them!

1st grade ocean scenes

For the next couple of weeks, 1st grade will be working on their crayon resist ocean scene, to go with their writing they are doing in class! We started practicing our fish yesterday, and they are doing a great job! We looked up images of fish and other ocean animals online, and then I demonstrated how to draw them using lines and shapes. 

Next time, we'll draw them onto Sax 90 lb paper, trace them with a marker, use Crayola Construction Paper Crayons to color, Crayola Artista II watercolors to paint the background.

Kindergarten Catherine Rayner inspired Bunnies

This week, Kindergarten started their Catherine Rayner inspired bunny! We did a directed drawing and then the students practiced their watercolor skills to fill in their beautiful little bunnies with color!

Catherine Rayner is an author and illustrator, and writes the cutest children's books!

Here's her painting. I just love it!

This project just took the kindergartners one 45 minute class to complete. First, I introduced them to Ms. Rayner, her art, and talked about where she is from. Then, we read the book she wrote titled, Harris Finds His Feet. 

5th grade Kimmy Cantrell inspired mask

This week, 5th grade will start their Kimmy Cantrell inspired cardboard relief mask! I was inspired by the Plastiquem blog and the Handmakery blog. They introduced me to this artist and I wanted to share him with my 5th graders!

In short, he's a contemporary artist from Atlanta, who makes beautiful, colorful works of art, out of clay, and his subject matter usually consists of faces. 

So, that's what we're going to create today!
